Access 2000 with Relational Database Design
Horizontal Line
Our proven Access teaching method and 100% past success rate guarantees that ...
With no previous exposure to Access we will make you a competent user* in just one day.

We will turn an existing competent Access user into a true expert* in just one day.

You can also book a "Database Design" day and be guided through the process of designing and building your database.

If you want to move beyond interactive Access and develop professional Access applications with hand-crafted VBA code we also have a comprehensive Access VBA course.

*
Competent user
means that you will be competent in all topics defined for Microsoft's Core Competence level.   At Expert level you will have a thorough knowledge of all software features.

Access is so many tools in one box that it is impossible to take a "one size fits all" approach when training in this product.  Our Access courses are always tailored to our clients precise needs while conforming to a more generalised outline.

Here are some of the things that Access is being used for by large and small companies throughout
the UK and our recommended set course for these requirements:-

Data Extraction and general use of Access applications written by others
Data is usually stored in a corporate Oracle, SQL Server or Access database and users need to engineer queries to selectively extract data.  The extracted data may then be used to print an Access report or sent to Excel for further analysis or Word for a mail merge.  You can learn all that you need to know about complex Access queries by taking our Module 1 (Core) course and we'll put extra emphasis upon query design.

Develop small database applications
To develop small applications (eg a customer relationship management application) you will need to be competent with database design, form design, query design, macros and advanced reporting.  You can learn all that you need for small applications from our Module 1 (Core) and Module 2 (Advanced) courses with (perhaps) a Database Design Day added to give you a flying start in building the actual application.

Develop professional polished applications
Few realise that many of the world's leading vertical market software products are written using MS Access.  From Hotel Management software to financial packages it is possible to engineer polished applications that nobody would even realise were written using Access and then to distribute or sell them (Microsoft allow you to do this royalty-free even to users that do not own Access).

If this is your goal you must be realistic about the skill level you need.  You will need to first achieve Advanced level in the use of interactive Access (by taking our Core and Advanced one-day courses) and then move on to the VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) course.  You'll then have mastered all of the concepts needed to produce a very sophisticated and polished Access application (see the screen grabs in our VBA course outline to see an example of the sort of application you'll be able to author).

Access 2000 VBA

If you are already an expert Access user you might have encountered requirements that are too complex to be implemented using standard Access features. Mastering VBA (Access 2000's programming language) will enable you to write custom code to implement just about any feature it is possible to describe!  Mastering VBA is also the only way to produce polished, professional, saleable applications using Access.

Visual Basic for applications is not an additional product. It already ships with Access.

VBA isn't for everybody. To get value from this course you'll need to already be an accomplished Access expert user (preferably by taking our core and advanced courses). Much of what you learn in our VBA course will also be relevant to writing custom VBA extensions to other office applications too (such as Excel).

If you are still unsure about what VBA can do for you review the course outline below by clicking the What Will I Learn? button. It things still aren't clear one of our Access experts would be pleased to advise how our VBA course can enable you to achieve your corporate goals.

Course Length: Can be run across two or three Days (click the What Will I Learn? button below for more details).
Covers: Advanced features
Prerequisites: Module 2 (Advanced) or equivalent

Access 2000 Database Design Day

Even if you are already competent with Access the process of designing and building a properly normalised and constrained database can be a daunting proposition.

We will guide you through the process of identifying the entities and attributes in your data model, correctly defining the one-to-many and many-to-many relationships and applying appropriate constraints. Our expert database designer will leave you with a database model that will serve you well and avoid the need for a costly re-design exercise in the future if your first draft contained design errors.

Leverage on our 20+ years of database design experience and book an Access database design day. We know you'll be truly delighted with the end result!

If you would like to know more about how we can help you achieve instant success in your next database project feel free to telephone or Email (numbers are at the bottom of the page) at any time.

Access 2000 Course Length: One Day
Covers: The complete process of system analysis and the hands-on design and build of a correctly normalised and constrained Access database along with associated forms and reports.
Prerequisites: Module 2 (Advanced) or equivalent

Access 2003 Complete Developer Course
Your fast-track to a complete business solution

Some of our clients have an urgent business requirement.  They need a solution fast.  A working Access application that can be used right now and further developed as required.  The problem is that they do not have the required advanced Access skills in-house.

One solution would be to employ an Access contractor to develop it.  The application might take months to build (at a daily rate of £500+) and still not really address requirements.  This is because the developer is an Access expert but NOT expert in your own business and will not fully understand your requirements.  Communicating them may take a long time - but the business needs the solution NOW.

Does this sound like you?

Give us an intelligent person (or persons) with a logical and analytical mind  - who may never have even seen Access before but completely understands your business requirement.  We'll send them back with a working application and all of the Access, Database Design and VBA skills they need to maintain and add new features.

The delegate will build your application during the course by analysing which entities (tables) and attributes (fields) are needed by defining correct relationships. The delegate will then build all (or a subset of - depending upon what is possible during five days)  of the forms and reports needed to start using the application right away.

We'll cover all topics in our Access Expert course and Access VBA Course - all within the concept of your own business requirement.

Without a doubt this course provides the fastest and lowest-cost route to creating a custom business database application.

To discuss this in more detail feel free to Email or telephone us at any time.  An Access expert will clearly communicate what is, and isn't achievable in five days.  You'll be amazed at how much can be delivered in so little time and at such little cost.

Access 2000 Course Length: Five days
Covers:
  • Basic, intermediate and advanced Access skills.
  • Application development using VBA.
  • The complete process of system analysis and the hands-on design and build of a correctly normalised and constrained Access database.
  • Development of associated forms and reports.

See the outlines for the Complete, VBA and Database Design courses above for detailed information about what you will learn.
